The town and surrounding area are facing difficult times ahead thanks to the 'Credit Crunch' and the impending move of the Stena terminal to Cairnryan. The loss of several high street outlets, alongside the closure of Woolworths, have had an impact on the town's economy already. The knock-on closure of the Baby Deer outlet on the industrial park has already cost the town around 20 jobs
How Stena's move will impact on the town is yet to be discerned, but the Chamber firmly believe the town's business community needs to organise now and to prepare for these changes.
Stranraer District Chamber of Commerce holds meetings, monthly, at local venues in the town to which all members are welcome to attend. At these meetings we can formulate policy to ensure the business community has a voice at local, regional, national and international levels through representatives of those organisations.
The Chamber has recently attended meetings and workshops with the Waterfront development teams to ensure the views of local business are being considered and to allow us to feedback to our membership how the project stands.
We also plan to hold networking meetings throughout the coming year and to invite keynote speakers to these events. Details of which will be posted on this page, so please check back often to see what's new.
